T Level Digital Production, Design and Development

Tell me about the course

A T Level is a composite technical study programme, aimed at preparing young people (16-18) for work, higher level apprenticeships, or higher education.

T Levels are designed for students who wish to study at an advanced level but also wish to gain invaluable “on the job” experience. They are new, elite courses, which follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A Levels. These are 2-year courses, which launched in September 2020, have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses, so that the content meets the needs of industry, and prepares students for a career in IT/Digital, University, or a higher/degree level apprenticeship.

As these are equivalent to three A Levels, they carry some UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service) Points.

The jobs available to the students will be based on their individual abilities in the digital sector and will be supported by their achievement of this qualification. Alternatively, students could progress sideways to the Level 3 Software Technician Apprenticeship to develop and gain certification of their occupational competence, or they could progress to higher level Apprenticeships such as the Level 4 Software Developer, depending on their skills or experience.

Where students may not have access to an Apprenticeship or would prefer a more academic route, they could progress to relevant Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes or digital degree programmes such as Computer Games Programming BCs, Software Engineering BSc, Virtual Reality Design BA, Computing BSc, Digital Media Design and Development BSc or Computer Science BSc. Students should always check the entry requirements for each degree programme with the relevant higher education provider.
What qualifications will I get?
T Level Digital Production, Design and Development.

Overall grade calculated as from:
- Core Components grade (A* – E and U)
- Occupational Specialism Grade (Pass/Merit/Distinction)
T Level study programme is eligible for UCAS Points.

The qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels.
What can I go onto next?
Potential routes include:
- Employment
- Higher Education
- Apprenticeships (progression onto lower-level apprenticeships may also be possible in some circumstances, if the content is sufficiently different.)
How will I be assessed?
Core Components

2 written examinations – externally marked.
- - Core Paper 1 – 2½ hours.
  - Core Paper 2 – 2½ hours.
Employer Set Project (ESP) – externally marked.
- - - Five tasks completed over the course of 2½ weeks, totalling 14½ hours.
Occupational Specialism

Synoptic Assignments – externally marked.
- - Four tasks over 11 weeks, totalling 67 hours.
Entry requirements
Either:
- A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or higher, which must include English, Maths and Science
Or
- Vocational Tech Award qualification(s) at Level 2 at Pass and above in an IT or computing/computer science-based subject.

Tell me about the course
NCC Education’s Level 4 Diploma in Computing is a pathway qualification for candidates who wish to complete the NCC Education degree journey. This qualification is equivalent to the first year of a Computing degree qualification in the UK university system and will allow access to the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Computing and the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Computing (with Business Management).

The Level 4 Diploma in Computing (with Business Management) is the first year of the NCC Education degree journey. The qualification is equivalent to the first year of a Business IT degree qualification in the UK university system. This course is designed to develop essential thinking and study skills in IT and Business through a balance of academic and vocational subjects. Students can contribute to the development of computer systems and networks, databases, and websites in a business context, whilst also developing an awareness of business needs. The programme will allow students to enter the IT and Business professions with the necessary knowledge expected within the industry and will be able to apply these skills to a range of IT-related functions.

Students must complete the 4 core units, 3 specialist units and 1 elective unit.

- Algorithms and Mathematical Concepts for Computing
- Designing and Developing Object-Oriented Computer Programmes

The course is classroom based for one day per week, and during this time you will have lessons where knowledge will be delivered. This delivery will occur through a combination of presentations and tasks which will allow you to explore the topics in more detail. There will be discussions, question and answer sessions, and written tasks. There will be a substantial number of practical activities, which will make use of both physical and virtual environments. Some activities will be undertaken as part of a small group, but you will need to be able to demonstrate your knowledge as an individual.

Level 4 Diploma in Computing (with Business Management)
What can I go onto next?
Potential routes include:
- Enrol onto either the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Computing (with Business Management) (L5DC BM) or the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Computing (with Cyber Security) (L5DC CS), equivalent to Year 2 of a UK bachelor’s degree.
- Or apply to Year 2 of a university degree programme.

- GCSE Grade C/4 or higher, or equivalent.

- IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
