Hair & Beauty Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a practical, work-related course, designed to allow you to learn whilst you earn. This programme is suitable for school leavers and mature students who have a keen interest in the beauty industry, and wish to pursue a career through on-the-job training.

The Level 3 Advanced Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship is designed to provide you with the skills and understanding required to work at a higher level within the beauty sector. Following completion of this apprenticeship, could look forward to a career as an Advanced beauty therapist, Head therapist or Senior therapist.

You will build on the knowledge and behaviours acquired during your Level 2 study and will develop the competencies required to provide, design and implement bespoke treatment plans. Your training will include the following skills and knowledge:

• Completing advanced consultations for advanced and technical therapies to design bespoke treatment plans.
• Legal requirements regarding Health & Safety, Industry codes of practice, insurance and informed consent.
• Completing risk assessments and preparing the environment and clients for advanced treatments.
• Performing and adapting advanced treatments, such as, Swedish Massage, microdermabrasion and lymphatic drainage.
• Providing post treatment advice and recommendations including follow- up procedures, aftercare products and avoidance of activities that may cause contra-actions.
• The structure and functions of the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, lymphatic, nervous, respiratory, digestive, endocrine and reproductive systems.
• Adapting products, equipment, tools and treatment duration to suit the client’s skin type and characteristics, body type, body condition, sensitivity and tolerance.
• Supervising, coordinating and organising individual and team activities, whilst maintaining good working relationships with individuals and team members

You will learn in a real-world environment and be assigned an instructor-mentor who will provide all the guidance and support you need to succeed. You will also have the support of workplace mentors who will provide you with a wealth of company knowledge and experience. In addition, you will take part in regular sessions in college where you can meet up with other apprentices, from varying levels of experience, to share your personal experiences and reflect on your learning journey.

At BLC we offer an enhanced student experience with the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities, such as, industry trips, competitions, connecting with guest speakers and a visit to the Annual Hair & Beauty Show.

Level 3 Advanced Beauty Therapy

You could progress on to employment as a beauty or spa therapist, in an advanced senior position, in a wide range of settings including salons, spas, hotels, cruise ships or self-employment.

End-point assessment (EPA) is the final stage of an apprenticeship. This is an impartial assessment, carried out by an independent body, and will assess your development of the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard. This may include observation, practical skills assessment, oral questioning of knowledge and online multiple-choice tests.

You must have a related Level 2 qualification and, ideally, have a minimum of GCSE Grades 4/C or Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English.

You must have the right to work in the UK and have been residing in the UK for the prior 3 years.

The Level 3 Advanced and Creative Hair Professional Apprenticeship is designed to provide you with the skills and understanding to become a senior hairdresser. Following completion of this apprenticeship, could look forward to a career as a Creative Hair Stylist, Advanced Senior Stylist, Senior Hair Professional or Specialist Technician.

You will gain the knowledge and behaviours required to be an advanced or specialist hairdresser and your learning will focus on the following units:

• Consultation
• Creative restyles
• Creative styling and dressing of the hair
• Colour correction services
• Smoothing and strengthening systems
• Producing a collection of looks

You will demonstrate your creative individual flair, problem solving skills and ability to adapt to your working environment, as well as, changing fashion trends. You will take responsibility for your own work and client lists, and learn to effectively manage your time whilst providing a top-quality service and taking exceptional pride in your work.

You will learn in a real-world environment and be assigned an instructor-mentor who will provide all the guidance and support you need to succeed. You will also have the support of workplace mentors who will provide you with a wealth of company knowledge and experience. In addition, you will spend regular time each week in college, where you can meet up with other apprentices, and learn through a combination of theory-based sessions and practical demonstrations.

At BLC we offer an enhanced student experience with presentations by industry professionals and the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities, such as, a visit to the Wella Salons/Studios, an overnight stay in London to visit Salon International Inc, and the opportunity to take part in competitions.

Level 3 Advanced and Creative Hair Professionals

You could progress on to employment as a professional senior hair stylist in a wide range of settings including hair salons, session styling for catwalk, TV/film, cruise ships, bridal work and self-employment.

You may wish to continue to develop your skills and knowledge by completing further related training or Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses, such as, Advanced Hair Colouring.

You will also be eligible to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hair Council, enhancing your career prospects and opportunities within the industry.

You will be assessed on an ongoing basis and in a variety of ways, including observation, practical skills assessment, oral questioning of knowledge and online multiple-choice tests.

You must have a Level 2 qualification in a related subject area and, ideally, have a minimum of GCSE Grade 4/C in maths and English, or Level 2 Functional Skills.
