University of Derby’s official statement on coronavirus

The outbreak of coronavirus is being closely monitored by authorities at home and overseas. As of today, a number of cases have been confirmed within the UK. You may have seen in the news yesterday, a school has closed in Buxton along with the Buxton Medical Centre for deep cleaning. The school confirmed that a parent of a pupil has been diagnosed with the virus. We have no reason to believe that this presents any additional risk to our staff or students at Buxton or any of our campuses. If you are registered at Buxton Medical Centre and require medical assistance whilst it is closed then please contact NHS111 or visit Accident and Emergency if you require more urgent assistance.

We continue to operate as normal. All planned teaching and other events are taking place as usual. We advise our staff and students to be aware of the advice from Public Health England and follow these official instructions where applicable. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update you again if required.

In the meantime and to protect yourself and others from most illnesses:

  • Carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze.
  • Bin the tissue, and to kill the germs, wash your hands with soap and water, or use a sanitiser gel.

This is the best way to slow the spread of almost any germs, including coronavirus.
