SIX young catering students will be representing Buxton & Leek College in a prestigious national competition to find the best emerging talent in the hospitality industry.
Two teams of three students have won places in the regional heats of the Nestlé Professional Toque d’Or contest earning their college £500 worth of catering equipment – with a chance of another £1,000 worth of equipment if they make the national finals.
Chosen from 156 teams representing 68 colleges nationwide, team 1 from Buxton & Leek College is made up of Dan Foster, Jordan Hemsil and Luke Taylor-Beard while Team 2 is Joel Agg, Natalie Williams and Ieuan Roberts. All six competitors are full time students on the Advanced Chefs Diploma and Diploma in Food and Beverage Supervision courses at the College.
The young caterers have been coached and mentored by tutor Mark Hudd and they will be competing at the regional heat of the competition in Birmingham in February when they must demonstrate their catering skills live in front of a panel of judges.
Mark Hudd said: “All six of these students are very enthusiastic and I’m very proud and pleased to see them win through to the regional heat in what is a very prestigious and nationally renowned competition. I wish them the best of luck in February and it would be great to see at least one of the teams make it to the grand finals.”
Each student competing in the regional heats receives a £30 voucher towards catering equipment and has all travelling expenses paid by Nestlé.
