A TEENAGER from Ashbourne is looking forward to a new life at sea after landing a cruise ship contract.
Buxton & Leek College beauty student Victoria Brannan, 18, will work as a massage therapist on a Steiner cruise line after successfully completing her Level 3 Beauty course at the college’s Leek Campus. She will start her specialist training at the company’s London Academy in September and will not know until the autumn which cruise line she will be working with – but it could be P and O, Royal Caribbean or Carnival.
The excited teenager said: “Living in a small town like Ashbourne, it’s not easy to find work and I have always wanted to travel so applied to Steiner. I attended a day’s interview in Birmingham where I had to demonstrate a massage on another interviewee and I was selected from that.
“I’ve never been on a cruise ship so don’t really know what to expect. The nearest I’ve come is to travel on a ferry over to France but everyone tells me I will soon get my sea legs and I’m really looking forward to starting a nine month contract this autumn. I could be travelling to the Mediterranean or even the Caribbean and I think it’s a great opportunity.
Victoria, a former pupil of Ashbourne’s Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, started training as a beauty therapist at the College’s Devonshire Dome Buxton Campus. She moved to the Leek Campus to take her advanced, Level 3 qualification and feels that the course has given her lots of great experience in working with real clients.
Buxton & Leek College Tutor Jayne Earl said: ““Victoria has been a pleasure to teach over the last two years. Victoria has progressed into a very confident therapist with excellent client skills. Her academic knowledge is very good and she is passing all her exams with excellent grades. All our clients think the world of Victoria and the client feedback that she receives on a weekly basis is a credit to her skills.
I have really enjoyed teaching Victoria and wish her every success for the future, she will be missed by all the staff at the Buxton & Leek College”.
