The successful students: Kim Newton and Leonie Moore, studying Hairdressing Level 3 and Sarah Degnan (Level 2) beat the odds to compete at the Midlands regional heat on 1st May at Doncaster.

Ruth Nuttall, Hairdressing lecturer at Buxton & Leek College, said of her student’s achievements:

“Our hairdressing students took part in the first stage of the competition here within college where they had to create a commercial cut and colour on a model. They then had a professional photograph taken and these were submitted to Wella for judging. We are delighted that 3 of our entries were selected for the next round. The students created current fashion looks using their colouring and cutting skills to create their looks.

“They are now busy preparing for the next round where they will again showcase their skills by styling and presenting their models.”

During the next regional round of the competition the entrants will be asked to do a similar look again. They will be judged on the choice of their model’s outfit, makeup and hair colour and design – and they must display their look with a mood board.

Sarah Degnan, aged 35 who is undergoing a career change, having previously worked as a Social Worker said: “my sister is my model for the competition – I have dyed her hair a baby blue in preparation for styling on the day. I’ll complete the look with an on-trend denim outfit.”
