This month, students from our Catering and Hospitality courses worked with sixth form students from Kings CE School in Kidsgrove, using one of Buxton campus’ seven, industry standard kitchens to prepare meals for the Dome’s public restaurant.
The Students from Kings CE school visited the restaurant with College alumni Matthew Sargent, who is now working at Kings School. During the day, they shadowed the Buxton students in order to find inspiration as well as gain relevant industry skills such as setting up tables for service and working under pressure in a simulated professional environment.
The Devonshire Dome restaurant is open Tuesday to Friday with fine-dining available from 12 noon to 1pm and teaches students how to work under pressure, whilst preparing dishes to a professional standard. Students from the catering course at Buxton & Leek College have gone on to work at Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, Raymond Blanc’s two Michelin starred restaurant.
