Buxton & Leek College celebrated National Careers Week 2023 from the 6th – 11th March by welcoming a range of employers onto its Buxton and Leek campuses to speak to students about joining their relevant fields. The different insights these employers were able to provide will be invaluable as College students begin planning their next steps and career goals. Featured employers included uniformed services (such as the Derbyshire Constabulary and the Royal Navy), child and adult care providers, outdoor education, and the construction services.
Janis, a member of BLC’s Union of Students also brought International Women’s Day into focus by holding a stand which encouraged students and staff to strike a pose, ‘break the bias’ and then sharing stories about the inspirational women in their lives and pinning them on a display board during the event. Janis also ran a cake sale during the proceedings to raise money for BLC Boost, an initiative created by BLC to help students struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
