Buxton & Leek College is thrilled to announce that it has been shortlisted for the Tes Further Education Awards 2021 Outstanding GCSE Resits Provision category for the second consecutive year.
The annual awards recognise the most outstanding individuals and institutions that the further education sector has to offer. Following shortlisting at the 2020 awards, Buxton & Leek College has once again been recognised for its outstanding GCSE maths and English resit provision, which has been successful in helping students achieve GCSE qualifications that they were not able to achieve previously at school.
Alison Ivins, Curriculum Leader for Maths & English, said “To have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award again is an incredible honour. We have a history of our students consistently achieving high and now nearly double the post-16 national achievement position in GCSE English and maths. We don’t focus on examinations, we focus on the student as an individual. We tackle the fundamental barriers that learners need to overcome in English and maths. Our passionate teachers use diverse and innovative methods to build their knowledge and understanding, alongside their confidence, and our curriculum has never been limited to exam specifications.”
Tes head of FE Julia Belgutay said: “Further education providers have excelled in what has been a truly challenging year, and the amazing individuals, teams and institutions on our Tes FE Awards shortlist showcase that. Our judges were highly impressed with the calibre of entries and I want to congratulate everyone who has made the shortlist – it is a brilliant achievement”
The virtual awards ceremony will take place on 28th May 2021.
