HAVE you ever wondered what life is like as a college student or wanted to find out more about Further Education courses before applying for them?
Buxton & Leek College are offering teenagers just that opportunity next month when a fortnight of fun, free, action-packed taster sessions will be running across the two campuses. Students in Years 10 and 11 of school are invited to check out the many options on offer in the weeks starting Monday February 13. And, because half term falls in different weeks in Staffordshire and Derbyshire, students may need to get permission from their schools to attend.
Buxton’s sessions run from Monday February 13 to Friday February 17 and offer a chance to sample everything from caring to catering. Budding motor vehicle technicians can head to the College’s training centre at Harpur Hill Business Park and check out the industry-standard training facilities there while, over at The Dome, there’s all sorts of exciting workshops offering activities in sport, travel and hair and beauty.
The following week Leek campus offers teenagers a chance to check out the brand new facilities following an £8.5 million redevelopment programme with workshops running from Monday February 20 to Friday February 24. Included are tasters in Art and Design, Hair and Beauty, Media Makeup, Engineering and Childcare.
A College spokesman said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to sample a ‘taste’ of a course area that they have a genuine interest in, as well as experiencing how different college life is from being at school.”
A Year 10 student who attended a Beauty taster session last October half term said:
“I loved being in the Salon and learning how to do hand massages. It has made me think I would like to do a Beauty course when I leave school.”
